Why does Pittsburgh think it’s all about winning?

The Meadows Racetrack and Casino

The Meadows had been operating as a harness racetrack since the 60s, and since 2007 as a temporary slot parlor primarily patronized by a very mature crowd – average age 65+. But in 2009 this dusty brand was about to be reborn as the Pittsburgh area’s first permanent casino, offering over 3,500 of the newest slots and electronic table games, seven restaurants and lounges, luxury trackside VIP boxes, even a state-of-the-art bowling center. A younger and broader audience needed to be introduced to the all-new Meadows. So we set out to learn how to truly connect with the people of Pittsburgh by tapping into a variety of social media sources.

“I’d say one overwhelming characteristic of the people here is a fierce loyalty to Pittsburgh, and a ‘realness’ that’s hard to shake.”

“We have an art and music scene, nightlife scene, foodie scene, enough of whatever you’re into to keep everyone happy, but there’s also a real hometown feel to it.”

After listening to the people of Pittsburgh talk about, well, the people of Pittsburgh, and how they liked to keep it “real,” we decided to do the same. Our message would be one of choice, control and ownership of the entertainment experience. A conversation if you will, between friends that conveyed the message that regardless of how you liked to play, you could find your very own kind of fun at The Meadows.

Well, evidently the people quickly began to relate to the Meadows as their kind of place, because revenue, patron counts and club memberships skyrocketed while the average age of the Meadows patron quickly dropped. The Meadows continues to be recognized as one of the two top performing casinos in PA, even as new competition has entered their primary market.
